Rebates to Buyers are legal in California and are often times the deciding factor when chosing a real estate agent.

Many companies offer a rebate. My experience with those companies has been their lack of service when it comes to assisting you with your home search. Some companies will not even arrange a showing for you which means you must attend public open houses to view your home of choice. Other companies will actually pay the Listing agent a fee ($500) to show the home to you.

As you can imagine, this behavior is met with resistance and skepticism on behalf of the listing agent as they believe they are doing all the work and therefore should receive ALL the commission.
